Getting a Degree (english) Online
By Jeff Austin
There are many reasons why a person would choose to get a college degree online.
Maybe their education was interrupted by unexpected events, or maybe they took a job right out of high school that looked promising, but they now realize that they really need a degree so that they can advance.
Maybe the people who choose to get a degree online have a high degree of simple mathematical ability and realize that they really don’t have to be in debt up to their eyebrows to complete a college degree.
For whatever reason, an increasing number of Americans are deciding to get their college degrees either entirely or partially online.
One of the best things about getting a college degree either totally or partially online is that the cost is so much less.
A student can live at home, keep a full-time or part-time job, and continue to meet their financial obligations while attending college in the hours they have available and without putting themselves or their families deeply into debt.
Time is always a factor in today’s busy world. The idea of sitting in a lecture hall and hearing a professor or instructor drone on and on simply does not appeal to today’s instant-gratification young people. Almost all young people today are very computer savvy.
They’ve been using computers for everything since they were five years old. The idea of getting a college degree online is just not a far-out idea to them. They do everything else online…why not go to school and get a degree, too?
It really isn’t hard to imagine brick-and-mortar universities closing their doors at some point in the future when all education will be conducted online, is it?
This generation is computer savvy…the next generation will be even more computer savvy.

The Ultimate Importance Of Executive Education In Business
By Thomas Pretty
At the heart of every good company is a great leader with excellent management skills and high levels of competency. Due to the importance of leadership in business an increasing number of companies are sending their mangers on executive education courses to ensure they have the attributes that will allow them to succeed. Executive education is purely an investment; it is an investment in employees in the hope that after achieving a skill set in leadership and management, the company will feel the benefits of having a well trained and highly motivated management structure. This demand has led to a relative ‘boom time’ for educational facilities offering courses, as companies seek to constantly increase the skills of their employees.
Part of this development has included a move towards creating bespoke executive education courses for specific corporations. By doing this, educational institutions have been able to secure more business while developing training that is targeted to a company’s objectives. Around five years ago this was not the case, more generic courses were popular. Today however companies have realised that by giving managers specific skills they will in fact be better at their jobs. For instance, if a company wants to train sales managers, it makes more sense to put the trainees through an executive education course that focuses on financial analysis.
In addition to shorter, more specific courses, some education facilities have worked with businesses to create accredited award schemes. This can be anything from basic qualifications, right up to Masters level. This move comes as a result of company’s wanting their managers to have certification for the training they have undertaken within the company structure, as well as in the public sphere.
If you are a business manager, contemplating sending your management away on executive education courses means a number of factors that will require careful consideration. One of these considerations is to understand exactly what results you will need from a training program. This can be difficult but with the help of an executive education professional it is possible to find a course structure that will cover the attributes needed and a suitable timescale.
Additionally, converse with the employees set to take the course is an essential consideration so they understand succinctly what they will be expected to learn. However, part of the selection process of who will undertake the course should also include an assessment of who is likely to gain the most from training. It is also advisable to continue the training after the course has been completed. This can be performed by holding discussion forums and meetings that will ultimately help employees understand what they have learnt and how to apply it to their specific job role.
Executive education should not be considered a short term fix for management problems. It is in fact a long term solution that requires planning on the part of the leadership. Enrolling many employees on a rolling basis is an attractive option as it will gradually improve the attributes of the entire workforce. In addition by having a large number of employees suitably educated, improvements to working processes will become a reality as more workers have the knowledge to increase efficiency and hence profitability.
Ultimately executive education should be used as a reward not a punishment. By using it positively it is a way to improve individual performance and functionality. In the wider sense by using it as a reward, company leadership can create loyalty amongst the employees as well as gaining a more knowledgeable workforce. The world of business is cutthroat and fiercely competitive; by educating management officials it is possible to have those leading a business with the essential skills for success. The business owner of today needs to consider whether they can really achieve success without an educated, skilled and well rounded management structure; effective executive education can help to achieve this goal.
Business expert Thomas Pretty looks into how executive education can be deemed an excellent way to improve management ability, company efficiency and hence profitability.
College Education for Single Moms
By Lana Hawkins
An education is an important thing for anybody. Without a college education, even a high school education, there are very few jobs out there that will offer you the financial stability needed for your future. An education for single moms is especially important because not only do you have to fend for yourself financially, but you also have one or maybe more children to take care of. Juggling a job and trying to take care of the children at the same time can be a daunting process, and it is imperative that you find a way to get an education.
It is probably true that if you are a single mom, getting an education is something that you really want, but probably do not have time nor the money. There are special educational grants, scholarships, and other financial resources that are out there, but they will not come to you, you have to go out there and find them. Go online or talk to a financial aid officer at your local school and you’ll be able to find a program that will fit into your budget, if not your time. There are also some community colleges who offer free shopping opportunities for prospective students. If you find that your local college does not offer the services, there are several government programs that will pay a partial or full amount of child care while you are attending school.
An education for single moms is very important. And only when you get the career that you want, will you have a more secure future in which to raise your child. You’ll also be a role model for your child as they become older. A child of the college graduated mother is more likely to go to college themselves than if their mother had a high school graduate education or GED.
Time management is your biggest issue after your finances are covered. How can any woman manage a child, a household, an education, and a job? It can be done with the right management. Join a network of other single moms that have alternative schedules. You can take care of their children while they are at school and you can have your child taken care of while you are in school. If there is not a single mom network within your college, create one. Put up flyers and have a meeting. You’ll find that there are a lot of people in your situation that have the same difficulties with finances and time management that you do.
Use family members if they are available. Take advantage of the opportunity without taking advantage of the people around you. Show them that you’re responsible and that you want to have an education. They should understand that you know an education for single moms is a must if you are to have a financially secure family. Sit down and talk with your family and say to them that you want to graduate from college to make your life better and your child’s life better. Tell them that once you have a job and graduate from college that you will reciprocate all the assistance, love and the understanding, and maybe the finances that they give you.
