The Importance (multiplication) Of A University Education

By Paul Hata

The world in which we live is constantly evolving. We are demanding more and more from our citizens than ever before and in order to live up to the demands of the world we need a solid education upon which to base our skills and knowledge.

There are many alternatives available for receiving an education these days, which is good news for those who have not yet managed to obtain a four-year college degree. Truthfully, that degree is the difference in literally hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of a lifetime than not having a degree.

Four Reasons For A Four-Year Education

Money. The first reason that you should consider a university degree is the fact that it will substantially increase your earning potential. If nothing else appeals to you, this is typically the one reason that most people return to school after years in the work place.

If you are in high school and haven’t really had to deal with the bills and burdens that many adults face it’s difficult to explain how important any edge when it comes to earning ability truly is.

However, you should be aware that you need to choose your major wisely if money is your sole motivation. Not all careers pay equally when compare to the education required to enter them.

Insurance. This may seem like a strange term to use when discussing why you should get a university education but this is perhaps the best insurance you can find as far as employability goes.

Having a university degree gives you a competitive edge over those who do not. In many cases you will find that education is beginning to trump experience as employers are seeking workers with more rounded skills rather than those with very specific skills.

The modern university typically requires a brief exposure to all kinds of information and coursework that isn’t necessarily related to your major. This provides graduates with a broader understanding of the world (at least that is the assumption).

Employability. Believe it or not, those with degrees are much more employable than those that do not have them. There was a time when the trend was to employ those who had experience over those who had education.

That trend is rapidly evaporating as companies want employees that can fill multiple roles more and more often. The limited exposure to certain ideas or ideals and principles that most people receive as part of their university education makes you a more employable candidate because you should be able to adapt and adjust, as this was required during your educational process.

Confidence. There is nothing quite like believing in yourself. Getting a four-year education is one way to build confidence not only on a personal level but also on a professional level. Whether or not you realize it, this is often the best reason for pursuing a university degree.

This reason, as a matter of fact, will actually affect all of the other things I mentioned above. If you have more confidence in your ability you will be more willing to go out there and get the job done. As a result, you will earn more money and you will insure that you are an asset to your company by proving yourself to be just that.

Regardless of your personal reason for pursuing a university degree there are very few wrong reasons to get your degree. Good luck in your educational pursuits. I know they will serve you well.

Educational Software Considered A Key Tool for Your Childs Education
By Ben Needles

Computers are becoming increasingly ubiquitous. More people than ever own computers and the numbers continue to rise. Children are learning how to use computers at a much earlier age than their parents did. In my own life, my family did not own a computer till I was six while my daughter will be born in a house with three computers.

While their teachers will do everything they can to educate your child, your child is one of twenty or thirty kids in the classroom. Ultimately, the burden of educating your child rests on your shoulders. Your home is a great environment to direct your childs learning in fun and creative ways. There are many opportunities to learn in your home.

Educational software on the computer is a valuable tool that will have an enormous impact on your childs learning skills. Beginning reading programs covering phonics will build a solid foundation for the further development of your childs reading skills. Also, its never too early to start with math skills and there are many programs, such as Reader Rabbits math, that will encourage a thorough knowlege of addition and subtraction.

You child needs any educational advantage you can give them. The best advantage you can give them, according to the prevailing research, is to find a way to engage their interest. Children who are interested in the material learn at a faster rate than a child that is unentertained by the learning process. Kids love video games and cartoons, so computer software that combines the two with a postive learning experience can be a tremendous advantage for your childs education. Studies have shown that educational software is very effective at enhancing the quality of teaching and helping students comprehend on a higher level.

There are some things to remember when choosing software. First, it has to be easy for your child to operate, especially if you have a small child. When I was six, I hated the keyboard and we didnt have a mouse yet, so I remember how hard it was to use any software that was more complicated than hitting the arrow keys. Luckily, software and computers have evolved but it is still a consideration. Second, make sure it is software that will accomodate the attention span of a five or six year old. They dont have much of an attention span at that age so make sure the software dishes out the education in small doses. If your child gets bored then it doesnt serve much purpose, does it.

You should also find software that fits with your childs interests. This shouldnt be a problem, nobody knows your kid as well as you do. As much as I dislike the media tie in programs, Sponge Bob and Spiderman may be the best teachers for the job at hand. Its easier to introduce new ideas and pique their interest if there is something familiar about it. Its sneaky, but it gets the job done.

Finally, do some comparison shopping. There are a lot of options and you want to make sure you get the most bang for your buck. Compare the features of the program with what your child is learning in school already. Make sure the program itself is regularly updated and enhanced with new features to make sure it is of the best value. Also, compare competing products to make sure you get the best possible program. While you cant put a price on the importance of your childs education, you can make sure you get a great return on your investment.
